The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave is an intense science fiction adventure and dystopian novel set in the aftermath of an alien invasion. The invasion comes in waves - an electromagnetic pulse, a giant metal slab crashing into a geological fault line, an avian virus, then humans implanted with alien consciousness. Ninety-nine percent of the human population is wiped out and remaining survivors are being stalked by these part human, part alien beings. If things aren't bad enough, the 5th wave is yet to come.

Readers who loved The Hunger Games will find the same type of page-turning action in The 5th Wave. And, as the 5th Wave is revealed, few readers will see it coming. This book is definitely meant for the young adult audience and contains mature content in the areas of language and violence. Most dystopian fans will not be disappointed if they stay with this book. It is more difficult to follow than some dystopian novels, but action and suspense build as the story progresses. The 5th Wave is the first book in the series and is followed by The Infinite Sea and (soon to be released) The Last Star.
